DJ Shadow’s Josh Davis is widely credited as a key figure in developing the experimental instrumental hip-hop style associated with the London-based Mo’ Wax label. His early singles for the label, including “In/Flux” and “Lost and Found (S.F.L.),” were all-over-the-map mini-masterpieces combining elements of funk, rock, hip-hop, ambient, jazz, soul, and used-bin incidentalia. Although he’d already done a scattering of original and production work (during 1991-1992 for Hollywood Records) by the time Mo’ Wax’s James Lavelle contacted him about releasing “In/Flux” on the fledgling imprint, it wasn’t until his association with Mo’ Wax that his sound began to mature and cohere. Mo’Wax released a longer work in 1995 — the 40-minute single in four movements, “What Does Your Soul Look Like,” which topped the British indie charts — and Davis went on to co-write, remix, and produce tracks for labelmates DJ Krush and Doctor Octagon plus the Mo’ trip-hop supergroup U.N.K.L.E.
Josh Davis grew up in Hayward, CA, a predominantly lower-middle-class suburb of San Francisco. The odd White suburban hip-hop fan in the hard rock-dominated early ’80s, Davis gravitated toward the turntable/mixer setup of the hip-hop DJ over the guitars, bass, and drums of his peers. He worked his way through hip-hop’s early years into the heyday of crews like Eric B. Rakim, Ultramagnetic, and Public Enemy; groups which prominently featured DJs in their ranks. Davis had already been fiddling around with making beats and breaks on a four-track while he was in high school, but it was his move to the NorCal cow-town of Davis to attend university that led to the establishment of his own Solesides label as an outlet for his original tracks. Hooking up with Davis’ few b-boys (including eventual Solesides artists Blackalicious and Lyrics Born) through the college radio station, Shadow began releasing the Reconstructed From the Ground Up mix tapes in 1991 and pressed his 17-minute hip-hop symphony “Entropy” in 1993. His tracks spread widely through the DJ-strong hip-hop underground, eventually catching the attention of Mo’ Wax. Shadow’s first full-length, Endtroducing…, was released in late 1996 to immense critical acclaim in Britain and America. Preemptive Strike, a compilation of early singles, followed in early 1998.
Later that year, Shadow produced tracks for the debut album by U.N.K.L.E., a long-time Mo’ Wax production team that gained superstar guests including Thom Yorke (of Radiohead), Richard Ashcroft (of the Verve), Mike D (of the Beastie Boys), and others. His next project came in 1999, with the transformation of Solesides into a new label, Quannum Projects. Nearly six years after his debut production album, the proper follow-up, The Private Press, was released in June 2002.

Notes about how the commands work:
Make Sure You're Using the Latest Version of Winamp
With every new version release of Winamp, the Nullsoft team not only bundles in new features and functionality, they also make sure to include bug fixes and cleaner code. Many times, simply upgrading your software might be enough to kick whatever issues you may be experiencing. Problems that you might find lurking around Winamp 5.0 may already be long gone in 5.08.
Winamp 2.x users should also note that Winamp 5 is a continuation of version 2's code, unlike Winamp 3, which was rewritten from scratch. Winamp 5 is a direct upgrade from Winamp 2, adding in new fixes, security enhancements, and plug-ins (which can be easily disabled if needed). Consequently, Winamp 2.x users are highly advised to download the latest version of Winamp.
Clean Install Winamp and Check Your Plug-Ins
When installing Winamp, you may want to install into an empty directory (new folder), or uninstall your previous version first. Clean installing helps avoid configuration conflicts that may occur when overwriting existing files. Please consult these procedures when looking to do a full uninstall and/or reinstall.
For an introduction to plug-ins, please refer to Winamp's "What is a Plug-in?"
Many instances of Winamp crashing or slowing down could be attributed to unsupported, third party plug-ins. Problems you are experiencing could be the fault of a plug-in, and not Winamp's. If you have reason to believe that a plug-in is in fact causing conflict with Winamp or any other plug-ins you may have installed, you can do one of the following:
If you'd rather not lose out on all of those items, you can download the full version, and uncheck the specific features in the installer that you do not plan to use. For example, you can uncheck "support for cd burning/ripping" if you do not plan on using Winamp for CD burning/ripping, but leave the other options marked to install those. Though Winamp runs fine on most systems with all of the "extras" installed, if you do not plan on using them, Winamp will be wasting it's time (and yours) loading them up.
Use Classic Skins or Keep Your Modern Skins Trim.
For an introduction to skins, please refer to Winamp's "What is a Skin?"
Running Winamp in Classic skin mode drastically decreases the startup time of Winamp, while increasing overall speed. While Modern/Freeform skins typically come equipped with extra functions and are oftentimes more visually impressive, you pay for that all with longer load times and more CPU. Classic skins can usually be differentiated from their Modern counterparts by their rectangular shape. Winamp's default Classic can be selected by going to Options > Skins > Winamp Classic. There is a Classic skin that closely resembles the look of the default Modern skin, for those of you wish to use that instead You can choose not to have support for Modern skins at all by unchecking the feature when installing.
If you decide to use Modern/Freeform skins, there are several tweaks you can apply to your preferences, improving your performance while using these skins. All of these preferences can be quickly accessed by hitting Ctrl - P.
Consult the Winamp Forums.
If worse comes to worse, and none of the above tips help you, your problems might require a lot more than this guide can help you with. If that's the case, I suggest you either visit #winamptech (irc.zirc.org), or the Winamp Technical Support section of the Winamp forums. There should be a lot of good folks ready to help you in both of the above spots. Please make sure to run a search on your problem first before posting on the forums. Also, make sure you include your system specifications, along with what 3rd party plug-ins you are using and whether or not you have done a clean install.
Moreover, Audiograbber automatically normalizes the music and deletes all traces of silence. The program can be set up to send the newly captured data to an external encoder. This program can be used to capture audio from vinyl and cassette tapes. Due to the amazing amount of features included on Audiograbber, I firmly recommend this software above all the rest.
CDexSome compressed files can be parts of multi-volume sequences. In WinRAR you can split a huge archive to a few smaller files, which are called volumes. They may have extensions .rar (the first volume), .r00, .r01, ..., or .part1.rar (the first volume), .part2.rar, ..., etc. If you need to unpack volumes, place all them to the same folder and start extraction from the first volume.

NBC Video
Just listen to this via NBC - went over every network, I’m told.
——————————————————————————
“George Bush doesn’t care about black people,” said Kanye West as he ended his speech during the Concert for Hurricane Relief on Friday night.
Alongside actor Mike Myers, Kanye West diverted from his pre-prepared script to offer his feelings on the Hurricane Katrina. Kanye started off with how the media portrayed white people as “finding” food and blacks as “looters.”
“I hate the way they portray us in the media. You see a black family it says they’re looting. You see a white family it says they are looking for food,” referring to Yahoo! and other media outlets showing photos of Blacks people captioned as “looters” while Whites in photos were captioned as “finders” of food and supplies. Yahoo later removed the images and offered a public apology.
West, whose grandparents were heavily involved in the civil rights movement and whose father was a member of the Black Panthers, looked nervous as he stumbled through his words.
“It’s been five days because most of the people are Black; and even for me to complain about it, I would be a hypocrite because I tried to turn away from the TV because it’s to hard to watch. I’ve even been shopping before even giving a donation. So now I’m calling my business manager right now to see what’s the biggest amount I can give; and to just imagine if I was down there and those are my people down there.”
Kanye continued, in an almost rambling fashion standing beside Mike Myers, who at this point was shaking his head in agreement.
“To anybody out there that wants to do anything that we can help with the set-up that America’s set up to help the poor, the Black people, the less well off - slow as possible. The Red Cross is doing everything they can. We already realized how a lot of the people who could help are at war right now fighting another war. They’ve given them [The U.S. Army] permission to go down [to New Orleans] and shoot us.”
Mike Myers, now visibly stunned, turned to Kanye and shock but continued on with his pre-written speech until Kanye interrupted him saying, “George W. Bush doesn’t care about black people.” MSNBC immediately cut to Chris Tucker who sat looking bewildered.
Many have applauded Kanye’s statements, calling him a “hero” for speaking out on what many feel. However, media outlets such as Juicce News Daily, claim Kanye ruined the show. “In a disgusting display, West strayed from his prepared script to offer an overflow of hatred from his mouth, taking the spotlight off of the matter at hand, turning the relief program into his own personal soapbox.”
Blogging the Hurricane Relief Concert, an MSNBC sponsored blog, walked the fine line, stating, “Kanye brings up an important point, talking about how the media portrays white as seeking food and blacks as looters,” but ends the post with “Not sure what kind of flack Kanye’s gonna catch for that last bit, but I’m sure he doesn’t care.”
The show was simulcast from New York on NBC, MSNBC, CNBC and Pax. NBC spokeswoman Rebecca Marks claimed the person in charge “was instructed to listen for a curse word, and didn’t realize [West] had gone off-script.” In a statement, NBC said, “Kanye West departed from the scripted comments that were prepared for him, and his opinions in no way represent the views of the networks.”
Thought I ran into you down on the street
Then it turned out to only be a dream
I made a point to burn all of the photographs
She went away and then I took a different path
I remember the face
But I cant recall the name
Now I wonder how Whatsername has been
Seems that she disappeared without a trace
Did she ever marry ‘ol Whatshisface
I made a point to burn all of the photographs
She went away and then I took a different path
I remember the face
But I cant recall the name
Now I wonder how Whatsername has been
Remember, whatever
It seems like forever ago
Remember, whatever
It seems like forever ago
The regrets are useless
In my mind
She’s in my head
I must confess
The regrets are useless
In my mind
She’s in my head
From so long ago
Go-go-go!
And in the darkest
If my memory serves me right
I’ll never turn back time

On Tuesday, October 18, 2005, Simply Red will release Simplified, a collection that features both stripped-down versions of the band’s classic songs and well as fresh recordings. This unique new album, available on the Verve Forecast label, allows the songs and unmistakable voice of Mick Hucknall to shine.
Simplified takes more well-known tracks from Simply Red’s impressive back catalog and re-imagines them in a more acoustic — “simplified” — fashion. It also includes their stunning take on the Leon Russell classic, “A Song For You.”
Hucknall was inspired to revisit some of Simply Red’s hits after he was asked to perform some material with only a piano as accompaniment. “What struck me when I listened back to the performance was just how much the song leapt out at you in those circumstances,” he says. Classic Simply Red songs such as “Something Got Me Started,” “Sad Old Red,” “Smile,” and “Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye” are reinvigorated thanks to these sophisticated, even jazzy, new arrangements. One of the group’s most popular hits, “Holding Back The Years,” is beautiful and still lush; recognizable, but with an added timeless maturity. Other songs featured on Simplified include “More,” “Your Mirror,” “Fairground,” and
“For Your Babies.”
The lead-off track and first single from Simplified is the irresistible, upbeat, and distinctly Latin-flavored “Perfect Love.” The Cuban vibe of this sensual new song is amplified by the vocals of Havana-based singer Danae. A Latin feeling runs throughout Simplified, inspired by the band’s recent visit to Cuba. In fact, Simply Red is the first English pop band to have played in Havana, as they appeared at the landmark Gran Teatro early in 2005.
Simplified is the follow-up to 2003’s highly successful Home, which sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide. That release helped push the band to a level of over 50 million albums sold since forming 21 years ago. Although Simply Red’s lineup of musicians has rotated throughout the years, the one constant has been Mick Hucknall, one of the finest male vocalists Britain has ever produced, and also one of its most accomplished, melodic, and prolific pop songwriters.

“Wake Me Up When September Ends”
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
wake me up when september ends
like my fathers come to pass
seven years has gone so fast
wake me up when september ends
here comes the rain again
falling from the stars
drenched in my pain again
becoming who we are
as my memory rests
but never forgets what I lost
wake me up when september ends
summer has come and passed
the innocent can never last
wake me up when september ends
ring out the bells again
like we did when spring began
wake me up when september ends
here comes the rain again
falling from the stars
drenched in my pain again
becoming who we are
as my memory rests
but never forgets what I lost
wake me up when september ends
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
wake me up when september ends
like my father’s come to pass
twenty years has gone so fast
wake me up when september ends
wake me up when september ends
wake me up when september ends
[Part 1]
I’m the son of rage and love
The Jesus of suburbia
From the bible of none of the above
On a steady diet of soda pop and Ritalin
No one ever died for my sins in hell
As far as I can tell
At least the ones I got away with
And there’s nothing wrong with me
This is how I’m supposed to be
In a land of make believe
That don’t believe in me
Get my television fix sitting on my crucifix
The living room or my private womb
While the moms and brads are away
To fall in love and fall in debt
To alcohol and cigarettes and Mary Jane
To keep me insane and doing someone else’s cocaine
And there’s nothing wrong with me
This is how I’m supposed to be
In a land of make believe
That don’t believe in me
[Part 2: City Of The Damned]
At the center of the Earth
In the parking lot
Of the 7-11 were I was taught
The motto was just a lie
It says home is where your heart is
But what a shame
Cause everyone’s heart
Doesn’t beat the same
It’s beating out of time
City of the dead
At the end of another lost highway
Signs misleading to nowhere
City of the damned
Lost children with dirty faces today
No one really seems to care
I read the graffiti
In the bathroom stall
Like the holy scriptures of a shopping mall
And so it seemed to confess
It didn’t say much
But it only confirmed that
The center of the earth
Is the end of the world
And I could really care less
City of the dead
At the end of another lost highway
Signs misleading to nowhere
City of the damned
Lost children with dirty faces today
No one really seems to careeeeee
[Part 3: I don’t care]
I don’t care if you don’t
I don’t care if you don’t
I don’t care if you don’t care
[x4]
I don’t careeeeeeeeee
Everyone is so full of shit
Born and raised by hypocrites
Hearts recycled but never saved
From the cradle to the grave
We are the kids of war and peace
From Anaheim to the middle east
We are the stories and disciples
Of the Jesus of suburbia
Land of make believe
And it don’t believe in me
Land of make believe
And I don’t believe
And I don’t care!
I don’t care! [x4]
[Part 4: Dearly beloved]
Dearly beloved are you listening?
I can’t remember a word that you were saying
Are we demented or am I disturbed?
The space that’s in between insane and insecure
Oh therapy, can you please fill the void?
Am I retarded or am I just overjoyed
Nobody’s perfect and I stand accused
For lack of a better word, and that’s my best excuse
[Part 5: Tales of another broken home]
To live and not to breathe
Is to die In tragedy
To run, to run away
To find what you believe
And I leave behind
This hurricane of fucking lies
I lost my faith to this
This town that don’t exist
So I run
I run away
To the light of masochist
And I leave behind
This hurricane of fucking lies
And I walked this line
A million and one fucking times
But not this time
I don’t feel any shame
I won’t apologize
When there ain’t nowhere you can go
Running away from pain
When you’ve been victimized
Tales from another broken home
You’re leaving…
You’re leaving…
You’re leaving…
Ah you’re leaving home…
